In order to access the A/C evap core, the metal cross-member and A/C duct behind it need to be removed. The cross-member is easily removed with two Philips screws and a 10mm bolt. To remove the A/C duct, slide it left - toward the driver - until the passenger side of the duct disengages and the entire piece can be removed.

How to check if evaporator is leaking?

dye and uv is the only effective way to check the evaporator for leaks. The sniffer will go off just from air blowing on it. I bought one years ago and found the only way it's effective is gross leaks. Bubble testing is the way to go outside the evaporator box at hoses, connections and condensing unit.

Can you remove an evap core?

In most cases, removing an evap core is much more involved than a heater core, requiring almost a complete dash disassem bly. Some shops steer away from the job since it almost indefinitely results in damage to the dash.

Can you check evap with Windex?

Windex. I'd pull the glovebox and the blower motor and check the Evap directly. Never had very good luck getting a refrigerant sniffer to consistently catch all but the worst evap leaks when checked at the vents. If you pull the blower motor, then you can visually check the evap for telltale oil leakage and staining.
