You might consider having as fine a thread as you can for the tightening screws. Might also consider having 1"+ width on the roller bearings.

The two adjuster screws are 10-32 UNF. While it might be possible to find some UNEF threads, I don't think that it would help. One adjusts this thing by torque (a subjective amount of wrist effort) rather than by roller displacement.

When I rolled the rod of para adams, I worked both close to the welt and farther down, nearer the moisture plug. These two work areas overlapped. A possible advantage of the more narrow roller is that a tapered bore might be corrected. This would require careful measurement with small hole gauges.

Why would you want to reduce the OD of the Male Ferrule ? Isn't the problem usually that the male and the female have worn slightly (very slightly !) and the fit is now loose ? Larry Swearingen http://planingforms.webs.com

I have a tool that was designed by Wes Jordan and a couple machinist friends. The initial use was to break the seal that could happen on Orvis rods when left together for a period of time. They realized that it could also be used to put a female ferrule back into round.
