Step 1

Locate your ball mark on the green. Ball marks can be hard to find sometimes, so look in the exact area your ball landed on the green.

Step 3

Push the divot repair tool down and slightly forward. This motion pushes the side of the ball mark in toward the center. Never try to pull the grass up with the divot repair toll, always push down and forward.

Step 4

Repair all sides of the ball mark to fully repair the ball mark. The grass should fully cover the mark when done.

Step 5

Gently tap down the ball mark with your putter. Tapping down on the ball mark helps level the repair out.

Step 6

Fix one extra ball mark if you have time. Always try and leave the golf course in better shape than when you got there.

Step 2

Press down and then forward on the repair tool in order to help press the putting surface turf closer in a direction toward the center of the hole. Take care not to push up on the ground at the bottom of the ball mark, or damage to the putting surface may occur.

Step 3

Move the ball repair tool to the side to help close the ball mark. Repeat the process until the mark is completely covered by turf by pushing the sides of the mark or divot together.

Step 4

Tap down on the affected area of the green with a putter to complete the repair. Ensure you tap the green lightly, as soft greens could be further damaged by this step if you use too much force.
