I read on Top Golf's website that each bay can accommodate eight people with six being able to play at a time, but when you go to reserve a bay in Pittsburgh, it says only six may be in a bay. We will have 7-8 people-do we really need two bays?
The physical environment can accommodate 8, but the game system can only accommodate 6. To have a fair chance of playing, I would recommend getting two bays. Otherwise, two people will be waiting a lot, especially if you are paying per hour.

What is the red line of danger?
Anyone not hitting is commanded to stand behind a Red Line of Danger, so as not to get whacked in the chin while absent-mindedly eating a donut hole. For those who wander too close to the edge, there’s a safety net that’s called a safety net despite not being remotely sufficient enough to save a small housecat, let alone your gangly and drinking frame. So if your dream is to become a viral obit that reads “Idiot Plummets to Death While Golfing, Somehow,” go for it.

It doesn't matter how many people are playing -- up to six can play -- in each bay. You're just paying to rent the bay space. You pay by the hour, or fraction thereof, and that cost depends on the time of day when you're renting it.
Does Topgolf charge to rent golf clubs?
Topgolf provides golf clubs for use, and they don't cost anything to rent. You can also bring your own golf clubs to use at Topgolf, but most people aren't coming to Topgolf to work on their game; they're coming to have fun with friends.
