its funny how the DSG on the mk6 R and MK5 GTI is known for being more robust than the manual

I’ve had my Mk7 Golf R Estate since April and am loving it. My only query is I’m not sure if it’s standard or not. I had a manual hatch before this and I always felt the estate pulls harder so I bought a dragy to see if I was imagining things.
blower
That is far from standard, and for the estate is at least a stage 1 tune.
Swerve
I have a standard R estate booked at 5.1 secs 0-60 and the 7.5 if the 310 hp is booked at 4.7 so def not Standard
samm
You can get under the book numbers without much effort but to be sub 4 is not possible in estate form.

Do you get the boost gauge on the mk7? It's on the 7.5. If so, what peak boost is it showing?
gregozedobe
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it definitely sounds like it has been mapped (tuned), so you can kiss your official VW warranty goodbye on all drivetrain components. As soon as VW do a proper check your car will get a TD1 flag on their database.

If you bought it approved used you would be liable to prove it was remapped prior to your ownership, I read something similar on pistonheads with a bloke and his civic.

Yes. I agree. Tried a lot of runs and could never get a perfect launch.
AdDaMan
I can't comment on how the DSG gets off the line in launch mode as I've only driven one on a test drive, and didn't launch it.

Launching a manual 4wd car can be hard work. Can bog down very easily! As someone said above, there needs to be a balance. A bit of slip is recommended as some thing needs to take the strain, I would rather the tyres than the clutch or transmission. Get it wrong and it can be expensive, ask me how I know!

Only one person has recored times in a manual R, and everyone is saying that the manufacturers times cant be matched?

Believe it or not, r400 is on the button with 13.9. There was a post on here with someone running 13.9 standard manual

I ran a 12.9 in mine... not lightened or anything, running a JB1 but standard otherwise.

I tried everything that day (forgot to mention it was at Crail by the way) to launch the car.

I have never driven a Golf R but will be picking up a Golf R Estate on Thursday (retirement car - I have been driving company cars for 41 years).

They're all done with LC on. See below video will show the difference. About 6/10ths of a second

I've got a manual and I'm fairly certain it wouldn't do 0-60 in 5.1s when it was standard. I've watched many reviews where they test 0-60 and they are consistently in 6sec ball park.

I am more use to seeing conservative figures posted from manufactures rather than optimistic.

Out of curiosity, who among us uses their R in ways that fractional differences in numbers really matter, i.e. on the track? Since my R is a daily driver, how it performs on the road is what's important to me. The R is excellent in this respect - strong, responsive, fun.
Flatcoat
Funny you should say that. I will be at Santa Pod for the European Drag Racing Championships starting on 09 September. I first went in 1973, and have been following it since then.

Can't speak for the manual but my R is running mid 4 seconds to 60 totally standard. Tested at the weekend on a damp day and it was hitting that every time. Even managed a 4.3 but was on a slight downhill. The LC is amazing. Car is totally stock
