what affect does a small dent in a golf driver have

If the dent is smaller (dime size) and located on the crown or sole of the driver, you likely won't see a change in its performance. However, if the dent is larger (quarter size) it can affect the club's center of gravity or it can cause the head to lay open or closed if it's on the sole.

The dent in the driver's head can be small and have zero impact on the performance of the club. However, if the dent is large, it can impact some of the internal features and the aerodynamic capabilities of the driver. This is where you will probably end up having to look at a new golf club.

I recently dented the toe of my SIM Max driver. While I can’t say it’s affected performance, I think it’s changed the sound of the driver massively and I can’t stand hitting it anymore.

xBAGGS

That isn't going to affect anything. I had a rogue 4wd that the face was dented (on toe). I think it was from hitting winter range balls. I took it to my fitter and Callaway replaced it under warranty. You could see if this would fit into that category but I don't think its from wear and tear with hitting a ball, so not sure what would happen.

I’m sure it won’t affect anything, but I understand why it bothers you. My Mizuno CLK 3h has a dent on top, no idea when/how it happened, and it bothers me to no end. At least you don’t have to see your dent every time you address the ball.

ChitownM2

As others mentioned, I doubt it will affect performance, but it is possible it affected the sound slightly. Best bet is to find another one at a store and hit them back to back. Sim Max is popular enough you should be able to locate one.

I read all of the fine print on www.taylormadegolf.com regarding their warranties. The sum of it is that because "a third party" (a.k.a. your friend) broke it, the warranty is void. There were several other possible obstacles to getting your warranty honored, but not as definite as the before mentioned.

Grogger31

I put a good size dent in my BRAND new (1 round) FT-5 this week. I was taking a practice swing at the back of the tee box. Little did I know that there was a slightly raised rock hidden just under the grass. The result was a dime sized dent on the sole.

GaijinGolfer

I dont think you can really get a warranty claim on that because its not the result of poor workmanship. They will deam it was caused by, "user abuse" and deny your warranty claim.
