Are steel shafts better than graphite?

Typically, steel shafts are much heavier, more durable and are generally less expensive than their graphite counterparts. They are more often than not made from stainless steel and they tend to weigh in between around 90g-120g. Torque or lateral twisting found in all graphite shafts is lower in steel irons.

Is the Steelfiber i95S stiffer than the Nippon Modus 120 Xand?

The Steelfiber i95S is stiffer than the Nippon Modus 120 Xand almost as stiff as the Project X 6.0- both shafts are also played on the Tour and are considered typical steel stiff shafts.

Is steelfiber a composite?

Steelfiber was one of the first manufacturers to concentrate on graphite steel composite and has built up a corresponding leading position. However, many other manufacturers are now also active in this segment. And one thing must be said quite clearly: some of these manufacturers simply skip the step of working with steel, but simply develop their carbon fibres accordingly. A good example of this is KBS TGI, a pure graphite shaft, which can be very hard, but also light.

Is Steelfiber i80 stiff?

Our experiences in fittings show one thing above all: Steelfiber shafts should not be underestimated in their stiffness. Even a Steelfiber i80 R is already relatively stiff. Do not make the mistake of inferring the stiffness from the specified flex and shaft weight - you could be in for a nasty surprise with Steelfiber without proper consultation. If you decide on a Steelfiber shaft, it is essential that you clarify the flex in advance.

What shafts are compatible with SteelFiber 80CW?

With the SteelFiber 80CW iron shafts you would stay with the S flex.

Can Callaway X20 irons be used with 370 steel fiber?

Yes the Steel Fiber .370" tip size iron shafts will fit the Callaway X20 irons. In the X-20 irons Callaway used a .370" tip size shaft but cut slots length wise up into the tip end of the shaft to compress the shaft tip down to .350" where it comes through the sole. You will need to do this with these shafts as well. It is also recommended to tip trim 1" less than what is recommended if possible to maintain the flex of these shafts since they are being installed into a bore through.

So I just completed a fitting at a Club Champion, great experience but expensive prices. I was fit into Aerotech Steel Fiber i80R parallel shafts, though they work well, unfortunately, I am not in a position to drop the price of a full set of irons on just shafts, especially if I grow out of them as I take more lessons.

ob1soccer

from what i have learned, steelfiber you need to flex down, so if you normally play a stiff, you need a regular. as far as the 80 vs the 95 you are talking about 15 grams, which is pretty significant. did u hit the 95's

jakeshark

Thanks for the reply Ob1soccer! I am actually looking for a "true" steel shaft option that is comparable to the Aerotech i80r. Right now I play a true temper xp95 s300 which is too stiff for me, so I know I need to get a regular flex, but its a matter of which "true" steel brand (KBS, project x, true temper etc.) has a shaft that matches the Aerotech i80r in profile (bend, flex, tip stiffness etc.).

KaBoom21

Club Champion recommended the 80R for me in irons and 95R in wedges. I was playing DG R300 SL and went to Dynalite R300 SL and they seem to be great fit as I am a low-ball hitter. Nippon 95 Pro might be a good option as well.

Depends on why you want the Aerotech ... shock absorption, health benefits, or just the performance?

Steelfiber is the best graphite shaft in the market and yes they are pricey ($50 a pop). Sounds like you are a high handicaper. Just a word of precaution, if you use steel shaft and you don't hit it clean, it will feel harsh.... graphite shaft will reduce this feel.... There are tons of graphite shafts in the 80g range.

Why do putters use carbon shafts?

Players like Bryson Dechambeau use carbon shafts because even the stiffest steel shafts are not stiff enough for them or they become unplayably heavy. This is exactly the advantage of carbon: you can make these shafts extremely stiff without gaining much weight. This is not possible with steel. That's why there are more and more carbon shafts in putters on the tour as well. For amateurs, this is still a very expensive and questionable purchase, but the trend is going in this direction and there will certainly be more products of this kind on the market in the future.

Which shaft has the longest roll?

It is also very important to look at the carry and total length. The Steelfiber shaft showed the longest roll with 8m. Zelos only 5m and the Pro shaft 6m. This is a combination of trajectory and spin and shows one thing: The Steelfiber shaft flies too flat in this case and generates too little spin to be well controllable on the green.

Is carbon shaft stiff?

But also in the normal amateur area, light but stiff carbon shafts offer some advantages. Basically, there are simply players who prefer a lower overall or swing weight but need a certain stiffness. Tour players like Abraham Ancer therefore also rely on carbon shafts in irons. Because with carbon you can make even a 105g shaft as stiff as a very stiff 130g steel shaft - and 25g weight is a lot.

Is steelfiber a miracle cure?

But what we can say at this point: The Steelfiber technology is unfortunately not a miracle cure. It is not as if the advantages of both components are simply combined and the disadvantages are eliminated. Steelfiber is however always an option in a fitting.
