Not sure why someone said black pants should not be worn. It can look very elegant, even on a golf course. I have mostly worn black shoes partly for a reason stated earlier (easier to keep looking sharp) bu I own a few pairs of white golf shoes as well.

With dark pants, I would go with a bold stripe or pattern. Something with a little flash. Go against the urge to be understated, you're wearing white shoes with black pants, so convention is out the window regardless. Pick up any men's fashion magazine and see what they're recommending to wear with white bucks.
