I enjoyed the course and experience. The course plays long and some aspects of target golf. It provides a good challenge. Fairway was in good shape. Greens ran very slow. Greens in general were a good challenge with shelves, saddles and variety. I was fortunate to play with someone who had played the course often.

Is Washington National a good golf course?

Washington National is part of the Oki Golf course ownership program in the Puget Sound area. It is a very good layout that can test all levels. A true test of a 'great' golf course is that it will require you to utilize all the clubs in your bag if you are scratch player. This course does. This course is the home course of the University of Washington golf team and the school's purple decor is a little overstated throughout the course. The course hosts a major collegian event in the fall with 16 top university teams from around America participating.I have played the course twice and really enjoy it. Though both times I found the condition to be a little worn because of the heavy traffic. I played it most recently a couple of days before the collegian tournament and the short par 4s greens - #3 and #15 - were terrible. Both greens were almost unplayable because of poor player support for fixing ballmarks. The stretch of holes from 15-18 is a great finishing stretch. Rarely do you find such a strong, diverse and memorable finish.I play at a private club owned by Oki and therefore get reciprocal rights at all of their courses. Washington National is really good and worth the 30 minute drive for me.

Is bunkering good at the golf course?

Very underrated - course layout is strong, bunkering is excellent. The combinating of holes is stong and there are many architectural strengths. In the summer season, the fairway grass is cut amazing tight which is fun for a change.Too bad they are building more homes around the course.
