I was in the same boat as you after an eight year layoff. I had Callaway X12s circa 1998 and picked up some Ping G25's this year. The Titleist's you mention were not as easy to hit for me as the G25's. I am similar in handicap, shot 89 for my first round I ended up getting G25 woods as well. They are so easy to hit, it's ridiculous.
