I know he played with Laminates for his 3,4,5 woods as a lot of pro's did. Woods break, I was never so glad to see TaylorMade [u]tiny [/u] headed metal clubs hit the market in the mid 1980's. I broke many drivers, and fairway woods, and some you could get repaired and them be stronger.
