Who created SNAG golf?

Wally ArmstrongTerry and another former PGA Tour player, Wally Armstrong, developed SNAG® Golf ('Starting New At Golf') equipment and programming over a six-year period. SNAG® focuses on simple, structured instruction for all new learners and a modified form of golf that allows play in non-traditional venues.

Description Of Program

SNAG Golf ( S tarting N ew A t G olf) is a user friendly and “first touch” program to introduce golf to those new to the game. Activities follow the guide of TPC ( T raining – P ractices – C ompetitions). Equipment includes two clubs (Launcher and Roller) and tennis-type balls that cling to Velcro covered targets.

Objective Of The Program

The objective is to introduce students to all aspects of the game of golf including fundamentals of the golf swing, safety, playing by the rules, how to play the game while teaching life skills and good citizenship. Based upon individual focus and initiative, students will transition from SNAG equipment to sessions using traditional golf equipment.

What is a snag ball?

The SNAG ball is slightly smaller than a tennis ball and covered with a loop material. Unlike golf where you finish by putting the ball into the hole, in SNAG®, you finish by sticking your ball to the Flagsticky. Because of the Flagsticky and the Launch Pad, SNAG®is portable and playable anywhere.

What is a snag green?

SNAG® Green. The circular-shaped area around the Flagsticky where a Roller is used to reach the Flagsticky (in golf this area is called the “green”). SNAG® Hole. A defined playing area consisting of a tee (the first launch area of the sticky), a playing lane (the SNAG®way which includes obstacles) and the SNAG® green.

What are snag clubs made of?

SNAG clubs have fiberglass shafts with just the right amount of flex for maximum feel and fun. The heads are made of high impact plastic for safety and durability. The enlarged heads pro- vide plenty of surface area to strike the SNAG balls.

What is the launch pad on a snag?

All shots other than putting are played off a small rubber mat and tee called the Launch Pad. This ensures that the player will have an optimal lie every time.

How to roll snag balls?

You may choose to do this beginning at one foot, two foot, three foot, and four foot, or one roller length, two roller length or three roller lengths, then proceed to roll the SNAG®balls to the flat sticky. If you miss one, then start over.

How to do a wide Y on a golf swing?

Slide the right (rear) hand down the shaft and grip, snug against the fingers of the left (target) hand with the thumb on the red dots. (The target thumb will not be covered and the grip will be more in the palms of both hands). This hand position will also help to promote the desired “wide Y” position. LAUNCH.
