I'm a hitter. I started playing at age 16 and from my understanding most adults when they pick up the game are hitters too. A swinger typically starts at an early age and in my opinion a tougher concept to grasp.

Ok. I think I understand the point but it comes across as an over-generalisition to me. I have learned to let the swing happen naturally and not force anything...like the 3-9 pitch motion of a swinging pendulum.

KevCarter

My take... I think it's more of a feel and intent thing. In the full swing to play the modern game of golf, I think we all need a little of both. For me, the short game is where I feel a huge difference. I am definitely a "hitter" on partial shots.

KevCarter

Isn't a four barrel hit a combination of the two and theoretically better than either swinging or hitting individually? At least that's what I've been presented with. And if it's true, then the statement that isn't incompatible would be incorrect?

HappyGolf

Could anyone provide a summarized break down of the fundamentals underlying each action so we know what not to mix and not just that they can't mix?

KevCarter

Wow I go away for a couple of days and my thread blows up! Anyway, been experimenting and I think I'm barking up the right tree for a change

IMHO, Dr. Jeff is a really sharp dude who makes a ton of great points, and LOVES to study the golf swing. We don't always agree, but that doesn't make him wrong. Lots of ways to look at the golf swing. The majority of his TGM explanations are right on the mark, and a lot of the points others argue with are just semantics and ego.
