Who plays from blue tees?

Traditionally in golf, "blue tees" are a way of referring to the rear-most tee boxes on a golf course. If a golfer wanted to play the golf course at its longest length, he played from the blue tees. And some golf courses still use the color blue to denote the back tees or championship tees.

College golfers play from the men's standard tees on the golf course. These tees are usually between 6,000 and 6,500 yards. For Division I men's golf, you may see the yardages closer to the 6,500-yard mark as these players are capable of hitting the golf ball a very long way.

How far should a 80 year old man hit a golf ball?

As you get older, your swing speed normally decreases. That being said, there are still older golfers who have incredibly high swing speeds. If you're able to drive the ball somewhere close to 220 yards, you're pretty much average. I'd say anything lower than 210 yards and you're less than average.

At what age do you hit from senior tees?

Many golf clubs today still apply an age rule for the use of the forward tees, especially on competition days. 70 years of age was the benchmark for most. Some senior golf societies have an age entry level of 55 years and most members play from the forward tee box.

What tees should I play based on driver distance?

A general rule of thumb to determine which tee box is right for you is if you hit your driver under 200 yards, play from the closest tee. If you hit from 200-225 the next farthest tee, and so on. When you are hitting 275+ accurately you should be playing the farthest tees back.

At just 350 yards and playing uphill, it’s reachable for some, I suppose. But honestly, when we talk about “short par-4s,” the risk/reward for 99 percent of golfers (including my 55-year-old self) has nothing to do with potentially driving the green. Like the 10th at Riviera, the question is how you best pitch it close for a chance at 3.

I played today with my dad and was getting quite frustrated because I asked at the start what tee's we were going to play from, I said I wanted to play the blues - which were the second longest on the course.

Tell me what slope you use? The GHIN computer on my home course asks you to either select a course and tee, or to enter a rating and slope. Where do you come up with a slope when you are jumping from tee to tee?

Playing golf with your Dad... Was the bet your mortgage? Did it really matter? I realize the conversation revolves around different tees but I believe there is nothing wrong with playing it forward.

How to make shadows in golf?

When your shadow is in their tee line or over the tee, you’re making it harder for them to read the break, see the undulation around the cub or just see the ball. Try to move so that your shadow is out of the way before they start to play, since a moving shadow is in and of itself a distraction. This is true whether they person is first teeing off or putting the ball into the hole.

How late can you show up for a golf game?

If you’re late, you’ll end up getting in the way of others who showed up on time. However, you shouldn’t show up more than 15 minutes before your tee time or you’ll get in the way of those that literally just came before you.

What to do if you cheat on golf?

Let’s be honest – if you’re cheating at golf, your friends are going to figure it out rather quickly and lose all faith in you. Be honest when playing golf. If you say you’re a better player than you really are, they’ll figure that out, too, and wonder what else you’ve lied about. If you hit your ball into the grass and can’t find it, admit it, ask to get another one out, mark it on your score card and keep going.

How to practice putting before playing golf?

A general rule of thumb is to practice your putting before you start playing on the formal golf course. Be able to follow through on a golf swing and get the ball in the cup in relatively few swings.

Can you put a golf bag on a tee box?

The bags can be distracting if they’re in a player’s striking vision, as well. Don’t put your golf bag in the way of someone’s shot or walk path. Make sure your golf bag isn’t on top of someone else’s or in any way in anyone’s way. Another issue relates to how you put the golf bag down.
