If I’m close to the pin around say up to 4 metres and there’s not a lot of green to work with and I have a good lie, I'll go with a sand wedge (SW).

If I’m a little bit further away from the flag I’ll usually use a pitching wedge (PW). This ensures the ball comes out a little bit lower with a little bit more run.
Best clubs from over 7 metres
I use a 9 or an 8 iron in this position. The ball comes out much lower and quicker and is great for getting the golf ball to back pin positions. The lesser loft on the golf club means you don’t have to hit it hard to get it to the target and requires only a short descending blow on the golf ball.
