Sep 03, 2016 · I've just put my second set of cont 6 on mine and hands down the best tyre I have used to date, quiet, comfortable, amazing levels of grip in both the wet and dry - really suit the R - wear not the best, just got 10,000 miles and fronts were getting low (2mm) however still drove really well. Would definitely recommend.

I've recently bought a 14 plate golf r. The current tyres are Bridgestone Potenzas but will need replacing in the not too distant future.

The sport 5 is current choice of VW for the Golf. Mine arrivee yesterday wearing them all around. My personal opinion, they are a great tyre but v soft and may not last long.

Booth11

I've got Conti 5Ps on mine, also on my previous car. Excellent in wet and dry, never skip a beat. Usually find I get approx 13k mikes out of the fronts. Ok on noise, quieter than Bridgestones iirc.

GrayMK7R

Are the Conti 6 and improvement over the 5? Come as standard on Civic Type-R

robp

Im a Goodyear eagle fan, currently on asymmetric 2s, good price and excellent wet and dry. Would love to try the Michelin pilot sports which seem favourite choice but a lot more expensive

GuyKitch

Pilot sport 4s are wicked, I have them. Amazing in wet and dry. I'm gonna go for pilot cup 2s next, probably the best tyre I've ever had

growler

I had F1 asymmetric 3's on my mk6. Couldn't fault them at all but they will be fast wearing due to their softness.

What is the best setup for a MK7?

For the MK7 Golf, a square setup with the same size wheels and tires at all four corners is typically the best option for both street and track use. With a square setup, you will have a more neutral handling balance compared to a staggered setup, as well as the ability to rotate your wheels and tires to maximize tread life. However, there are certain situations where the driving characteristics of a reverse stagger setup can provide a handling advantage over a square setup. When driving on an autocross course or a tight track with minimal high-speed sections, a reverse stagger setup can allow you to have more rotational control of your vehicle. With a reverse stagger setup, you will have less rear grip, which can induce oversteer at the limit. This oversteer helps rotate the car during tighter and lower-speed corners, providing you with more control to point the vehicle where it needs to be coming out of a corner.
