What does low compression mean in golf?

A golf ball with low compression means that the transfer from the club to the ball is going to be larger when compared to a high compression ball. This means that the ball speed and velocity coming off your club face will increase.

Can a two piece golf ball travel farther off the tee?

As we covered earlier increase spin especially on longer clubs often hampers the distance that the ball will travel. By choosing a two piece golf ball you’ll be more likely to find that your ball will travel farther off the tee when compared to a ball of three piece or four-piece construction.

Golf balls with an ultra-low compression rating help golfers with a slower swing speed to gain extra yardages. So these are the best ones for beginners and seniors. But the best distance golf ball for those who swing fast is a high-compression ball.

What are the benefits of a 3 piece golf ball?

Key Features. 3-piece golf balls offer a softer feel. Active Acceleration Mantle increases initial velocity to boost distance.

How does the depth of a golf ball affect the flight of the golf ball?

The depth and number of dimples affect the golf ball flight in that they determine the drag and lift potential only to maximize the distance potential. An aerodynamic dimple pattern, no doubt, performs this task quite neatly. It reduces drag and increases lift for boosting distance.

What is a 2 piece golf ball?

If boosting distance is your biggest concern, then choose 2-piece golf balls. This type of construction consists of a large core and an external layer. The fewer the layers, the better it is for golfers who want to produce longer shots. Because more layers add more spin, which means shorter carry distance.

Why is compression better for golf?

It’s simple logic - high compression demands a faster swing speed to make the golf ball go long. And low compression is more suited for golfers with a slower swing speed, so they can achieve the longest distance the most effortlessly.

Why do distance balls have low trajectory?

Because, at such times, wind interferes with the elevated trajectory and leads to a short bouncing stop at the time of landing. Then there are distance balls that generate a low trajectory as well. But these should be designed with aerodynamics for reducing drag and producing a steady descent.

Why use softer golf balls?

Soft Feel. When using softer golf balls, you get access to better workability and feel around the greens. But for distance, harder balls are more likely to live up to your expectations. But that’s only if you can produce a faster swing speed. Otherwise, stick to the softer construction of golf balls.

Nessism

"longest ball" is an oxymoron, unless you are talking about illegal type balls.

Awesomeguy887

Have to agree with Ness here. My driver swing speed is 94mph and I really don't see a difference from ball to ball and the little bit I do is probably due to inconsistency in my swing.

Nixhex524

I found the Wilson Duo to be a half club to full club longer for me. My driver SS is closer to 100-103 mph normally, but that is a great ball for those looking for a little more distance with lower swing speeds. I am sure it has something to do with its low compression. For $20/dz, it's a great ball.

Nessism

Take a poll and by the time you hit 20 people you will have 12+ different balls denoted as "longest".

golfdad907

It's mostly a mirage or mental illusion. I would be curious to know how many people have actually played each longest ball long enough and stats to really know? I 100% agree there's a ball that plays best for their game or goals.

North Butte

There is very little difference in the distance golf balls fly with most swings but there can be considerable difference in how far they roll.

North Butte

Mini Verde greens, topdressed frequently, hot weather, very low clubhead speed (whatever equates to about a 147-148 carry with a 27-degree 6-iron). It's not a recipe for holding greens. My low trajectory just makes it worse.

Why is a heavier golf ball better?

A heavier ball will retain more of the kinetic energy it receives from the drive. The only force reducing the speed of a golf ball is air resistance, thus a heavier ball will have more energy to fight against air resistance. So the optimal weight of the ball depends on your drive. If you have a strong drive, a heavier ball will go the furthest.

Why does a golf ball have a wing?

This is because the aerodynamics of a ball affect how long it can fly. The dimpled surface of a golf ball, as well as a backspin, will cause lift on the ball, making it essentially a wing. This will increase the range significantly.

How much weight does a golf ball need to fly?

The lighter the ball is the faster the initial velocity will be. But it’s not simply a case of the lightest ball will go the longest. In the rules of Golf, it is stated that a golf ball shall not weight more than 1.620 ounces (45.93 grams).
