What was most impressive to you about Club Champion and their setup?
Deegan: I was just impressed with the overall approach from start to finish. I was sent an email questionnaire before my fitting, so Westover could learn what my goals and expectations were. It was essentially an icebreaker, since he says most golfers show up nervous. This way, he's ready for a conversation about your game before you start swinging.
What was your biggest technical takeaway from your driver fitting?
Deegan: Two things: First, I'm amazed at how much a single change in shaft could affect the ball's performance so dramatically. My fitter and master builder, store manager Derek Westover, would know within two to three swings if the shaft wasn't right for me, and quickly yank it out of the rotation.

I learned that my current driver -- the Callaway Epic with a 50g Diamana shaft -- had a swing weight just under D1 while my irons came in at D4. That's a substantial jump in swing weight from one club type to the next and was likely contributing to my biggest swing flaw: a deadly snap hook.

I got fit at Modern Golf. The outcome was bang on what I had in the bag for iron shaft but with the newest model of iron head. Lie angle recommendation was 62.5° for 7i and D2 swingweight. I took the sheet and called Ben at The Tour Van to make the purchase. Ben’s work is impeccable.

I had my P770s reshafted at CC. I generally know my swing and I had a specific goal, to lower ball flight as much as possible (I am a high ball hitter). I noticed my stock 770s seemed “inconsistent”. When they spec’d them they were C9/D0, far lighter than I play. That was a valuable insight. I know any fitter could do that. Overall I am satisfied.

I wouldn't call Club Champion thorough. Perhaps it's location specific. The best thing that Club Champion has going for it is the selection. But if you want to go in depth about swing weight and shaft profiles, etc., then I'd go somewhere else. If you already know what you like and are looking to try certain products that fit that mold, then Club Champion would be just fine.
Is Club Champion fitting good?
I did a fitting at Club Champion. I think it really depends on the specific fitter. One I had was ok, one was really good. The selection is definitely very good.
