What to think about when buying a golf club?

Think about what is important to you in a golf club. You’ve been playing for several years, so you have developed preferences on things you like, and just as importantly things you don’t like. If you want irons with a lightweight steel shaft, or not a lot of offset, or you really want a driver with an adjustable hosel, or you can’t stand low-profile fairway woods…make a mental list (or even an actual written list) of features that are important to you, and things you want to stay away from.

What companies make good golf clubs?

All the major companies make good stuff, whether it’s Callaway, TaylorMade, Bridgestone, Titleist, Ping, Cobra, Mizuno, etc. So another way to get the most out of your budget is to be flexible when it comes to choosing the brand, and being ok with having a mixed bag. A lot of people are hung-up on making sure everything matches…the driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putter, bag, hat, ball, glove…they want everything to be the same brand. That’s fine if it’s important to you, and there is nothing wrong with it, but it limits your options if you’re trying to get the best deal. You may find a great deal on some woods from one company, and a smokin’ deal on a set of irons from a different manufacturer. Being open to mixing brands can help stretch your dollar. If you have several shops in your area, shop around. Don’t be afraid to ask a salesperson if they have any deals or promos that are running. One thing I strongly suggest though is don’t buy any clubs that don’t fit you or have the wrong shaft in an effort to save money. If the clubs don’t fit you, it doesn’t matter how much money you save…it’s not a good deal.

What is the right shaft length for a golf club?

Which countries make forging irons?
