what other golf club shaft is similar to nippon super peening blue

I am planning on reshafting a set of Cobra S3 forged. I want to go with the Nippon Super Peening shafts but I am not sure which to go with. I am a 3 hcp. 8 iron distance is about 145 yds. in summer weather. Back swing is a little short of parallel. Shot trajectory is not quite medium. I usually hit the ball very straight with a shallow divot.

What are you playing now? What's not quite medium, just low or just high? I've read the blues flight lower than the oranges.

swizbeatz

Well I'm not club builder so I can't help much with the weight problem, looks like they are 5 grams apart in S flex. I'm looking for a higher flight and easier load/launch as well so went with the Oranges.

Here's part of a message I got from someone who posted frequently in the Nippon threads. "they came with Dynamic Gold S300. Im actually in the middle of switching them out and putting back my Nippon Orange.

bosgolfer

The Orange for me felt very close to the Modus 3 in the 130 version. The Blue feel stiffer and for me fly even lower than S300's.

I play SP Blues in X flex in my i20's. My only experience with the Orange was during a fitting this time last year. The Orange and Blue shafts are way different for me anyway. I have a higher swing speed, hit my 8 iron around 165 in summer weather, and I hit the ball pretty high.

swizbeatz

Good stuff Hstead. Also OP, last I check there was a set of Oranges on the BST this morning, thats where I got mine.

indharbor

Anybody with experience with these shafts? I am looking at orange or blue, heavier shafts.

TBone

I would be interested in hearing some comparisons between the super peenings versus the 1150's also.

I play 1150 S with TS X Blade CB and X on Z101...and tried a Srixon Pro 100 #7 on Super Penning RED S just for pre-installation test.

HungryPillow

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I'm also looking at shafts now and would love some feedback on the Super Peening series vs. the 1150 Tours from those that have experience... thanks!

I had the 1050's on my epon type j's and replaced them with super peening blue's. For me, the blue's are a lot better because i'm a very high ball hitter and they bring the trajectory down noticeably! Both are very smooth, the blue's obviously being stiffer and heavier.

Is the Blue and Orange the same?

If the Blue and the Orange are the same flex, then they will play to the same flex.

Is the Orange stiffer than the Blue?

Of course, golfers who fit best into the Blue, will feel that the Orange is not stiff enough, and golfers who fit best into the Orange, will feel that the Blue plays stiffer. This is the result of the weight and the geometry of these designs. Also, the distance gained or lost depends on the user.

Feedback

How come these are so short standard uncut? Much shorter than most shafts.

Feedback

Soft step would reduce the flex though no? how do extenders affect the flex?

Earlier tonight I got to try out a stiff flex Nippon Super Peening Blue in my MP59 six iron.

Feedback

the spb will be lower launch and lower spin than the modus. i'm one of the extreme few that doesn't get along with this shaft. on paper and in theory it should be money for me so i'm baffled. i'm a high launch, high spin player and i absolutely love the kbs c-taper.

Feedback

I want to try them, but what I've read is that the SPB is low/mid launch, low spin and a little stiffer to flex. The SPO is mid launch, mid spin and a touch less flex than the SPB.

Feedback

surprisingly they are nippon's harshest feeling shaft YET smooth by DG and Px standards. i feel these are the DG series of the NSpro lineup. i like them a lot but i prefer the modus better.

Feedback

Did you go with stiff flex in the SPB's? If so you have to hard step them?

Feedback

I've got the SP Orange in 2 different sets of Onoffs, love these shafts. I tried the Modus 3s and was all over the yard.

Theres some on the bay and sets pop up here from time to time. I loved mine in a set of R7Tps. Got a HSx1 that will be going in my Ztx-2s and wedges once I get home.
