I use a medium-size bath towel. You can get them for about $3 during department store linen sales. Get one in a color that matches your bag - the color won't show stains as much after washing as a white towel.

I like to use a fairly large one as I like to wet one end because I don't wear a glove and it helps to get the oils and such off when sweating in the heat. I prefer to use the bath towels myself, only because I don't find the "golf" towels that name brand companies put out big enough and usually too expensive.

When it comes to cleaning golf clubs, I don't think the microfiber helps all that much. The main purpose is to wipe off drit and water, something any towel will be able to. Mine are as large as possible without getting in the way and going all the way down to the ground when attached to the bag.
