I just have a question regarding the best type of solvent to use with fast dry time. I am currently using Brampton HF100 solvent from Golfworks.

I use disc break cleaner. (Not the water based kind) Stick a tee in one end, spray some cleaner in, swish it around, pour it on the tape, slide the grip on. It is ready to go in very short order. disclaimer: I don't use the stuff in the house or a confined space. [attachment=2205043:001.JPG]

Brampton HF-100 is a great product. Its super easy to use. I'll never let my bottle run empty. I've got the small/medium fine mist sprayer, and quart refill bottle.

Lighter fluid is mostly Naptha from a chemical standpoint. Just use the Naptha

Ok, as a Chemist, I use soap and water with water based tape. I live in the heat of the NC Coast and never had a problem with the tape or drying times.... The less number of chemicals in the house the better... Brake Fluid,,,Lighter Fluid,,,, whoa......????
Feedback
Well, nobody has mentioned it yet but regular unleaded gasoline works absolutely great. Excellent solvent and very, very fast drying time. Not for the smokers out there. Disclaimer: I didn't tell you the above.

Go to harbor Freight, home depot, menards etc and spend $50 on a small compressor. Usually comes with the hose and a few fittings. Then get a nozzle adapter ($3-4) and presto. No odour, messy solvents or expensive dual sided carpet tape. PLUS its waaaay more easy and customizable. I will never use the tape and solvent method again.
How to apply grip tape solvent?
The best way to apply grip tape solvent is to add it to the inside of the grip first. Then, swish it around so it covers the inside completely (the guys in the videos I’ve linked to above both do this, so don’t miss it), then drizzle the solvent out of the grip over the grip tape. This both applies solvent to the grip and grip tape, and actually reduces the amount of solvent you use. And prevents the dreaded half-stick grip which almost always means you have to cut it off and start again with a new grip.

As you can see by the photo, I’m installing Golf Pride’s Tour Velvet Plus 4 grips onto my irons. These grips are called “Plus 4” because the lower hand region of the grip is built thicker to feel as though there are four wraps of tape underneath. Depending on what your preference is, you may want one or several layers of tape under your grips, either on the whole grip or the upper or lower areas. For me, even though I’m using midsized Tour Velvet Plus 4s, I still want two layers of tape under the whole grip.

In the middle of taking a couple grips off to change them I forgot that I don't have any more lighter fluid that I normally use. I searched for alternatives that I might have around to use. The only one on the list that I know I have is one that I have never heard of before and can't imagine it working even if I did have some.

Paint thinner is mineral spirits. Basically the same thing as grip solvent. Get the odorless type and recycle the stuff during gripping. A quart will last you a long time. If you can get the grips on using soapy water as a lubricant, I can't see anything wrong per say.

I've never tried it but my father used to use dish soap from time to time -- it takes longer to dry, but 36 hours and you should be good to go.

If anyone uses this technique know that the soap will never evaporate. Use too much and the grips will likely slip since the soap acts like a lubricant. Bad idea overall. Get some mineral spirits or similar and install the grips properly.
