Preparations for the 2022 US Open have been taking place for several years now, and this historic venue in Brookline, MA will once again host professional golfers for the first time since 1999. The magical hands of Gil Hanse and his wonderful team have made brilliant (and subtle) improvements throughout the sublime property, and the tree clearance is just glorious. The exposure of rock cropping and visuals across the course just add to the magic of the place. This club is part of American history and will forever hold a special place in my own heart as it was the first course I ever played in America back in 2001. Not a bad start, right? The Composite (US Open) layout is fierce, and I can’t wait for the event next year, especially given that the back nine is over 4000 yards long and the greens are the smallest around. The sheer fact that this old venue has been so well preserved and is as close to the quirk of Ireland/Scotland as you could imagine, the topography at Brookline will no doubt provide for world class entertainment next summer. We’ll wait and see which squirrel will get the nut.#N#June 26, 2021

One of the features that you find throughout the course are the glacial rock formations that holes are routed through and around, such as the par five 11th hole, aptly called Himalayas . You hit your tee shot on this hole from a high, elevated tee to a crevice in the rock canyon on the left side of the fairway. Midway between the bottom of the canyon and the elevated green is a creek that runs through the bottom of the hole. Not the type of hole you see every day and one that really uses the geography present to maximum advantage.
