Thanks for saving me a trip to the stealership!, I was concerned . Crazy tight...

GolfRWag

Mine was the same (R), pull it out, lightly file the area where the catches on the dipstick click into to make the ramp a bit less steep (cover the top when you do that) so the clips can slide up over more easily.

FamousAfroJay

Hi all. Just seeing where the level should be as mine sits above the textured area, leading me to believe it may be over filled?

MassMassa

Top of the textured area is max. Dealership once overfilled mine and was approx 2cm above (equating to 700ml!). Had to be pumped out.

I had same issue after my last service, oil at the very top of the textured part...maybe a tad over.

Jon-Paul

It's a good move to drain the excess and get it spot on the mark, a slight overfill will burn off but excessive amounts can be harmful .

Funnily enough I checked mine last night and it was the same, id say a quarter into the textured section.

Why do automatic transmissions have dipsticks?

. . . He said one of the reasons is that the dipstick is one of the only sources of dirt in an otherwise clean transmission. Just a bit of dust or lint on a rag used to wipe the fluid off the dipstick is enough to snowball into a much larger problem down the road. The engine lubrication system is designed to deal with lots of soot and junk... but an automatic transmission is a much more "sterile" environment. According to him, the sealed transmissions should last much longer.

Can you check fluid in a car with a VAGCOM?

You've got to have VAGCOM to check it, and it's not extremely easy then. I wouldn't worry about it, unless fluid is dripping out anywhere you're probably good to go. A good visual under the car should tell you plenty.

there isnt one sadly enough the steps to check your transmission fluid are as follows Park the vehicle on a level surface. Raise and safely support the vehicle such that it is level. Place a suitable drain receptacle underneath the rear of the transaxle. Remove the filler plug on the side of the transaxle, near the halfshaft flange.
