where should i put the fuel pump pulse line on a predator 14 horse in my golf cart

by Benedict Kautzer Published 2 years ago Updated 1 year ago

The fuel line on the right is coming from the gas tank and going into the inlet on the fuel pump. The fuel line on the left is coming out of the outlet and going into the carburetor. The fuel line in the center is the pulse line that runs the fuel pump. We drilled and tapped a hole in the engine side cover and installed a pulse fitting.

Can I use a stock carburetor with a pulse line?

The oil will limit the fuel pumps performance and require you to open up the fuel pump to clean the oil out. The best location for the pulse line when using a stock carburetor would be from using one or our carb insulators with vacuum takeoff (20650).

How to test a fuel pump on a golf cart?

How to Test a Fuel Pump on a Golf Cart. Check the vacuum and fuel lines if the carburetor fails to get sufficient fuel. These lines are made of rubber and tend to deteriorate over time. Gas leaks or gas odors are signs of faulty fuel lines. A damaged vacuum line has a drastic effect on the fuel pressure as the power of the vacuum gets lost.

Where does the fuel line come out of the CARB?

The fuel line on the left is coming out of the outlet and going into the carburetor. The fuel line in the center is the pulse line that runs the fuel pump. We drilled and tapped a hole in the engine side cover and installed a pulse fitting.

Where to attach a pulse fitting to the fuel pump?

The governor hole once the governor has been removed is a common place to attach a pulse fitting for the fuel pump. The problem here is you will occasionally get oil in the pulse line just like using the side cover method.

What is pulse line on fuel pump?

A pulse fuel pump uses the pressure differential produced by the engine to move a diaphragm inside the pump body. This pressure differential is generally transferred via a pulse tube to one side of a flexible diaphragm in the fuel pump.

Where does the electric fuel pump connect?

What are the two lines on a fuel pump?

There are only two hoses running from the pump. One is the high pressure line, which sends fuel to the injectors. The other is the return line, which dumps fuel that the injectors don't use back into the tank.

What does a pulse hose do?

What is a Pulse Hose? A pulse hose is a specially manufactured hose that, unlike a typical hose, will expand slightly to dissipate energy and built-up pressure. The energy dissipation quality decreases momentary pressure spikes and smooths flow and performance.

What is a pulse line?

A pulse line is a type of moving assembly line, but it's one step short of a continuous moving line. In a pulse line, products are positioned sequentially in a straight or U-shaped line on the shop floor. The products stay at those positions until all the planned work is complete.

How do you direct wire a fuel pump?

To do this, you'll need to disconnect the wire from the pump and connect it directly to the positive terminal of your battery. Then, run a jumper wire from the negative terminal of your battery to a ground point on your vehicle. This will complete the circuit and allow power to flow directly to the fuel pump.

Does a electric fuel pump need a fuel pressure regulator?

Most lever style mechanical fuel pumps don't require a regulator and some electric fuel pumps even have the regulator built right into them, and eliminating the need to purchase an external unit.

Where is the best place to mount a electric fuel pump?

The universal fuel pump should be mounted below the fuel tank, as all fuel pumps do not have equal lift capabilities. Also, the pump must be mounted below the carburetor to avoid possible vapor lock conditions from occurring.

Which fuel line is the return line?

The vapor-return line normally runs from the fuel pump or the fuel filter to the fuel tank. This vapor-return line is connected to a special outlet in the fuel pump. Any vapor that forms in the fuel pump returns to the fuel tank through this line.

What lines connect the engine to the fuel tank?

The Fuel Lines connect all of the various Fuel System components. Steel lines and flexible hoses carry the fuel from the tank to the engine.

Does length of fuel line matter?

Does size really matter when it comes to fuel lines? According to the fuel delivery system experts at Fuelab, it does. It's because fuel line size and length have a direct effect on the amount of fuel pressure drop your fuel system will experience.

How to test a golf cart fuel pump?

How to Test a Fuel Pump on a Golf Cart. Check the vacuum and fuel lines if the carburetor fails to get sufficient fuel. These lines are made of rubber and tend to deteriorate over time. Gas leaks or gas odors are signs of faulty fuel lines.

What happens if a golf cart runs out of gas?

If your golf carts runs out of gas, the engine will stop running. This in turn stalls the cart and makes it difficult to control the braking and steering. The fuel line will be filled with air causing the fuel injectors to get clogged or the fuel pump to get damaged.

How does a vacuum pump work?

It is a vacuum-powered pump that uses pressure from the crankcase. This pressure is called pulse and is generated at the bottom of a piston in the cart when the crankcase turns. The pump also has an inlet and an outlet. There are two diaphragms that separate the inlet, outlet and pulse from one another. When the diaphragms start pulsing, the fuel ...

How many diaphragms are there in a gas engine?

There are two diaphragms that separate the inlet, outlet and pulse from one another. When the diaphragms start pulsing, the fuel is moved from the gas tank to the inlet chamber. From here, the fuel gets transferred to the outlet chamber and then to the other parts of the engine.

Do golf carts need fuel?

However, golf carts that are used extensively, carry heavy loads or operate in high altitudes may require a higher-octane fuel. But this can be detrimental to the life of the golf cart as mentioned above. To overcome the problems, you can consider fitting a fuel stabilizer to the golf cart.

Can you put an electric fuel pump on a golf cart?

Yes, it’s possible to install an electric fuel pump on a golf cart. The fuel pump must be powered from that side of the solenoid, which features the starter motor. In other words, it must be connected from the large post of the solenoid that goes towards the starter. This ensures that the pump operates only when the starter gets running.

Can you fix a golf cart on your own?

Why is my fuel pump not working?

Fuel issues aren't always caused by the fuel pump. Performance problems could also be caused by issues involving the crankcase or engine. A leaky crankcase or damaged engine cannot produce effective power. You'll want to take a look for signs of an oil leak, a bad crankshaft seal, or issues with the case gasket.

What is crankcase pressure?

While the more generally recognized term "compression" refers to the pressure limits at the top end of the engine, crankcase pressure actually refers to the pressure present at the bottom end, below the piston. While the pistons move up and down, the crankcase pressure will vary; we call this a "pulse.".

Do golf cart fuel lines deteriorate?

Rubber vacuum and fuel lines will eventually deteriorate. This issue is far more common in older and pre-owned golf carts and ATVs that haven't been given regular tune-ups. If you're having problems with the fuel not making it to the carburetor, check the lines very closely.

Issue 1

Rubber fuel and vacuum lines naturally deteriorate with time. If you are having issues with a lack of fuel getting to the carburetor, be sure to check the lines closely. With rotted fuel lines, you will either smell a gas odor or possibly see signs of leaking gas.

Issue 2

Since golf cart fuel pumps are based on a vacuum created by crankcase pressure, if there is any type of leak in the crankcase or lower end of your engine, you may experience fuel issues. An effective output cannot be produced from an engine with a leaky crankcase. Check for any outward signs of an oil leak.

Issue 3

For the price of fuel these days, it should be the cleanest substance on earth. The truth is that it is not and often contains contaminants straight from the pump. This debris can get sucked out of the fuel tank and end up lodged in the pump.

Issue 4

Related to issue 3, the diaphragms inside the pump are very thin and fragile. They occasionally break or develop tears, which would cause the pump not to function. It would need to be removed as describe above, disassembled and the diaphragms replaced with a rebuild kit.
