The flat cheap wrenches/ball mark tools that come with the spikes are only good for tearing up your hands and spikes (and in the hands of most golfers, the greens when they use them to "repair" ball marks.) I have the ratchet one and it's overkill (no need for a ratchet - most spikes only require a quarter turn these days) and still tears up the spikes sometimes.
