How many golf clubs do you need for 2 different courses?

The putter is way to important. I think 6 iron and wedge is a good choice though. You'll hit way more putts than tee shots so I'd take putter not 3 wood. For 18 holes you may have 14 driving holes, add a couple more approaches on par 5s and you've hit your 3 wood 16 times. You'll likely take more than 30 putts.

For a longer course (7000ish yards): 17* hybrid, 7i, 56* sw For a shorter course (6500ish yards): 3w, 9i, 56* sw Normally, the 3w wouldn't have a chance to make it in the "bag," but if the course is short enough, it could get you into scoring position with a short iron on many of the par 4s and may even let you give 1-2 of the par 5s a go.

3w, 7i, 56*/9* for a course of about 7200 yards. I can putt decently with a wedge. I can not however, hit soft pitch shots over bunkers, water et cetera with a 7i/putter. It varies on how you play, assuming you drive the ball far enough and if you get a lot of g.i.r., go with a putter.

Leaving out the putter is a mistake in my opinion, the 4-5 footers are where you win this challenge and I personally would make a higher percentage with my putter over any other club. I played 9 holes in Palm Springs (PGA West) with only a 7i from the blue tees, goal was to break 50.
