which is better golf shaft aerotech steel fiber or maryimar recoil

by Jeanie Padberg Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago

The Aerotech shafts are composite cores wrapped with steel fiber (59 miles), where as the Recoil shafts are pure graphite. We believe that creates a harsher shaft than the Recoil shafts. Many of our customers are surprised that they fit into the i95 as opposed to the i110 or i125....Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker play the i95 stiff.

Are there any stiff shafts with recoil 95 shafts?

I have Mizuno 919 Hot Metals with Recoil 95 stiff shafts. These were a stock offering from Mizuno, so no upcharge. I have a bit of arthritis in my hands, and they have helped a lot.

What is the difference between steelfiber and recoil shafts?

I have Steelfiber in wedges, and Recoil in hybrids. They feel very different, but I don't know if the Recoil hybrids are similar to the iron shafts. The steelfiber are very similar to steel, and as Chisag stated, are at least a full flex stiffer. The Recoils are probably a little softer than the stated flex, and much "smoother".

Are Aerotech hybrid shafts any good?

This measurements for this review were done a long time ago. For some reason they never got published. The AeroTech SteelFiber his hybrid shafts, like most AeroTech products are still in production, unchanged over 5+ years. For a custom club fitter this is a very good thing.

Are carbon fiber composite golf shafts better than steel?

Steel iron shafts continue to dominate tour play, but Aerotech has proven that carbon fiber composite shafts are competitive. As you look at the tip torque numbers of these shafts compared to steel in the same weight range you will not see any differences.

Are Aerotech shafts good?

The Aerotech SteelFiber i95 has the most PGA Tour wins of any graphite iron shaft in history and is a great option to transition into a lighter-weight shaft.

Who plays graphite shafts on tour?

Graphite irons shafts aren't new, mind you. Phil Mickelson was one of the first tour pros to use graphite in his irons during his 8-year run as a Yonex staffer, even though he admitted the shafts were the source of erratic ball-striking early in his career.

Do Steelfiber shafts play stiff?

I hit some Nike Covert forged in 124 F4's yesterday and they are MONEY ! Will get those shafts in my next set

Both will help out if you have tendentious. At the moment I like the SteelFibers better as they do play stiffer to flex. I just came from Recoils as those play softer.

I have a set of 125 f4, plays true to flex for me. Boy everything felt so soft and I really liked it. However it just wasn't for me for my type of swing. Debating if I should put it on the bst or just hold it and search for another set of heads.

rpaige88

I've tested both of them and you probably can't go wrong with either of them. I thought the SteelFibers felt more like a steel shaft but personally the recoil prototypes blew them out of the water (FOR ME). The recoils are so smooth. Feedback is still good with them but you can tell when you hit a bad shot. Its very different than steel.

SwingBlues

I had my G25 8 iron shafted with a Recoil Prototype 95 by Doug Mael (a poster and TourSPX clubfitter here) - lets just say, I stopped my search. Unbelievably smooth and tight.

OP, this comment is placed with the utmost respect but the frequency and nature of questions regarding these shafts make me think there is a campaign at work keeping these shafts in the spotlight. If you simply do a search for steelfiber or recoil you will find pages of information on both shafts including their vibration dampening performance. Once again I apologise if your post is genuine, just something that has been bugging me for a while..

CallawayKid86

I have not played the steelfibers, but I love the recoils. The proto will play a little stouter than the newer retail version. I have the newer ones now, but they are still a solid shaft. Just switched back to these from a stint with program 130.

What is an Aerotech shaft?

Aerotech steel fiber iron shafts are the only graphite shaft that have been consistently played on the tours. The shaft is unique, a thin steel wire is wrapped over a filament wound graphite core. The filament wrapping process, done correctly, creates inherently round shafts by eliminating any possibility of a sheet overlap that can occur in sheet wrapped designs. Until now, this design was limited to iron, hybrid and fairway shafts. Steel is heavy compared to graphite. Too heavy to produce a long driver shaft in the common weight ranges. That problem was overcome in the Aerotech Ti-Fiber driver shaft by using Titanium wire in place of steel.

Which steel fiber shaft has the lowest hoop deformation?

The Aerotech SteelFiber shafts have the lowest hoop deformation measurements as I have seen. The article about hoop strength in the technical section compares hoop strength of different shafts. The graphics there compare AeroTech SteelFibers to other shafts. If you believe as many do, that hoop deformation is a source of dispersion, you should test a SteelFiber iron shaft.

What is TI fiber driver shaft?

The TI-Fiber driver shafts wrap a braided titanium wire over a filament wound carbon fiber core. This process is explained in greater detail on the Aerotech website and explained in the Aerotech SteelFiber constant weight taper shafts review.

When did Aerotech Golf split?

Does Aerotech have carbon fiber shafts?

To their everlasting credit, the designs have not changed much. A few more weights got added, but like other icon brands in the shaft business, Aerotech has left what works alone. The AeroTech SteelFiber irons shafts are the most widely used carbon fiber shafts on the PGA tour.

Who is the president of Aerotech?

In a recent video Chris Hilleray, president of AeroTech explains the construction of the SteelFiber Golf Shaft. If you do not know the story of how the SteelFiber is made, he tells it better than I can.

What are the advantages of steel shafts?

The advantages of a (well fitted) steel shaft are therefore. maximum precision. high spin.

What is the difference between a steelfiber shaft and a Zelos shaft?

There are significant differences, especially in launch and spin. The Steelfiber shaft started much flatter with 19° than the Zelos and Pro shafts with 19. 8°. The spin was lowest with the Steelfiber shaft with 5939rpm and highest with the Zelos 7.

Why do putters use carbon shafts?

Players like Bryson Dechambeau use carbon shafts because even the stiffest steel shafts are not stiff enough for them or they become unplayably heavy. This is exactly the advantage of carbon: you can make these shafts extremely stiff without gaining much weight. This is not possible with steel. That's why there are more and more carbon shafts in putters on the tour as well. For amateurs, this is still a very expensive and questionable purchase, but the trend is going in this direction and there will certainly be more products of this kind on the market in the future.

What is steelfiber shaft?

Steelfiber, for example, is a shaft that is naturally very innovative and has caused quite a sensation. It combines the advantages of graphite and does not look like a typical graphite shaft.

Which shaft has the longest roll?

It is also very important to look at the carry and total length. The Steelfiber shaft showed the longest roll with 8m. Zelos only 5m and the Pro shaft 6m. This is a combination of trajectory and spin and shows one thing: The Steelfiber shaft flies too flat in this case and generates too little spin to be well controllable on the green.

Is carbon shaft stiff?

But also in the normal amateur area, light but stiff carbon shafts offer some advantages. Basically, there are simply players who prefer a lower overall or swing weight but need a certain stiffness. Tour players like Abraham Ancer therefore also rely on carbon shafts in irons. Because with carbon you can make even a 105g shaft as stiff as a very stiff 130g steel shaft - and 25g weight is a lot.

Is steelfiber a miracle cure?

But what we can say at this point: The Steelfiber technology is unfortunately not a miracle cure. It is not as if the advantages of both components are simply combined and the disadvantages are eliminated. Steelfiber is however always an option in a fitting.
