Can LASIK correct presbyopia?

Dec 20, 2017 · Started wearing glasses at age 9, contacts from 12 until 40, LASIK at 40 two years ago. Best money I’ve EVER spent. Didn’t increase or decrease golf ability, but made life so much better. I’ve heard reviews from mine all the way to horror stories. My question for anyone, how well do you do with your contacts?

Should I have LASIK or clear lens exchange?

How to get better at golf?

Get Your A-game in Golf! 1 Refine your focus. As any golfer knows, the hole is the ultimate goal of any putt and the purpose of any golf tip. Getting your ball into the hole requires you to focus on a small target, so in order to improve your golf game, you need to strengthen your visual acuity. Try drawing a black dot on your golf ball. This will get you accustomed to focusing on something very small, and help you make better contact with the ball when you putt. 2 Make sure your vision is at its best. Even if you have good vision, you should have it checked regularly, to make sure there is no room for improvement. If your vision needs to be tweaked to be the best it can be, you can fix it and improve your golf game. 3 Use the proper eyewear. Conditions on the golf course can cause eyestrain, and make you squint. Squinting tenses your muscles and negatively impacts your peripheral vision, which is not helpful if you are trying to improve your golf game. Wearing protective eyewear, like sunglasses, can help.

I recently had the Lasik procedure done for Vision correction. Everything going well so far but haven't been able to play golf yet. Just wondering people experiences out there that have had Lasik done and how it affected their golf game... if at all.

People I know that have had LASIK are very happy about it, but none of them play golf. Having played with glasses for years, I know what that's like, so hopefully you will have a great experience afterwards.

I tried contacts many years ago, but during the summer I have allergies; dry itchy eyes. Couldn't get them out one day, so I gave up on them. I only needed glasses for distance while driving, and I could play golf without them. When you hit the ball as short as I do, glasses aren't necessary.

I've developed astigmatism over the years and have to wear glasses. I've tried a couple of different contact brands, but can't ever seem to get past about 6-8 hours with them before my eyes have had too much - by which point I struggle to see well even after switching back to glasses.

I'll be curious how you feel after. I never played with glasses until a few years ago, and I HATE it. I'm convinced it's not helping my golf game (repeatable contact), but I don't know if it would make a real difference to get LASIK or not.

Got LASIK 14 years ago. Such a world change to no longer need glasses. More depth perception. Never could get contacts to work for me. Best money I’ve spent.

I had Lasik in 2006 and it is simply amazing.I found it easier to judge distances and everything is so much clearer. Only thing you will need is good pair of sun glasses. The best thing I found was when you go swimming in the surf, you can actually see the waves clearly before they hit you.

My wife had Lasik 20-ish years ago, and is doing fabulous. My eye doctor recommended against it for me. I have strongly curved eyes with bad astigmatism, and he said the results are not often good. My older sister has the same eyes as me (thanks, mom!), and her doctor also advised against it, but she had it done last year, and now regrets it.

Is golf an obsession?

Golf. For those who play, you know it is an intoxicating obsession. only natural enemy of the game is bad weather, and the weather has to be really bad to miss a tee time. Though hand-eye coordination is critical for all sports, perhaps golfers have the greatest dependency and the most to loose when optimum vision is impaired.

Why are glasses bad for you?

Glasses are a problem because they distort our peripheral vision out to the sides of the glasses.

Can you use a bifocal lens for near vision?

The best part about “refractive clear lensectomy” is that in most cases, we can implant a bifocal artificial lens, providing both distance and near vision, still allowing the person to benefit from full binocular depth perception, using both eyes together for all activities.

What is clear lens replacement?

Clear Lens Replacement is a simple procedure to remove your aging, presbyopic lens – before it becomes cloudy (a cataract). Your natural lens is replaced with a Lifestyle Lens Implant that is able to provide clear vision, at all distances. Lens replacement is the only permanent vision correction procedure.

How does lasik work?

LASIK works by treating the cornea, the outermost layer of the eye, to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Dr. Zimm uses the laser to resculpt the cornea to an optimal profile of steepness, flatness and roundness, respectively.

Is lasik good for you?

Is LASIK Best For Me? LASIK is a great procedure to correct distance vision. If your desire is to sharpen what you see in the distance — on highways, playing golf, enjoying the outdoors — LASIK might be a great choice. But if you’re starting to need vision help in the distance and up close, LASIK might not be the optimal procedure.

Can you use reading glasses for presbyopia?

There are two LASIK options for those affected by presbyopia: 1) correct both eyes for distance and use reading glasses for up-close tasks, or 2) correct one eye for distance and one eye for near to create what’s known as monovision or blended vision. Blended vision LASIK will only temporarily offset the effects of presbyopia.

What is the best laser for vision correction?

There are several excimer lasers that have been approved by the FDA for use in vision correction surgery performed in the United States, including: 1 STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System and iDesign Advanced WaveScan Studio System (Johnson & Johnson) 2 Allegretto WAVE Eye-Q Excimer Laser System (Alcon) 3 TECHNOLAS 217Z Zyoptix System for Personalized Vision Correction (Bausch + Lomb) 4 Nidek EC-5000 with Navex Quest customization (Nidek) 5 MEDITEC MEL 80 Excimer Laser System (Zeiss)

What is the laser used for LASIK?

LASIK and other forms of laser refractive surgery, such as PRK and LASEK, all use a highly specialized excimer laser to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism.

Do lasers have eye tracking?

Most modern excimer laser s have automated eye-tracking systems that monitor eye movements and keep the laser beam on target during surgery. Studies have shown that eye trackers produce better outcomes and decrease LASIK complications compared with past lasers that did not use eye-tracking systems.

What is an excimer laser?

Excimer lasers have the ability to remove, or "ablate," microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea with a very high degree of accuracy and without damaging the surrounding corneal tissue. There are several excimer lasers that have been approved by the FDA for use in vision correction surgery performed in the United States, including:

How does an excimer laser work?

An excimer laser corrects nearsightedness by flattening the cornea; it corrects farsightedness by making the cornea steeper. And astigmatism can be corrected by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more symmetrical shape. Excimer lasers are controlled by computer settings programmed to correct your specific refractive error.

Can a larger pupil affect laser vision?

In recent years, increasing evidence has indicated that larger pupil sizes may affect laser vision correction outcomes. If your pupil expands in low light beyond the diameter of the laser treatment zone on the cornea, you may experience vision problems such as glare and halos at night.

What is the wavelength of excimer laser?

The excimer laser emits a cool beam of ultraviolet light of a specific wavelength (typically 193 nanometers) to precisely remove corneal tissue. When the surface of the cornea is reshaped in the right way, it allows light rays to focus properly onto the retina for clear vision.
