I picked up some mint 2016 Apex hybrids in 20* and 23*. I'm thinking of dropping the 4 iron and shafting up the 23* with a shorter steel shaft to see how it feels. Who has done this and what shaft did you use? I'm playing PX 6.5 in my irons and I know a builder who has a spare PX 6.0 parallel tip kicking around.

jvincent

I have played steel in my hybrid (before I dumped it due to too much height/spin) and utilities forever.

Very helpful! Thank you. I hit the ball high too but it's mainly due to some flexibility issues from professional extreme sports. It means I have a bit of EE and am really working on hitting it lower and rotating better.

I think you need to be careful with shaft weights and head weights as it can feel really heavy compared to your irons. I have built a few of these, and currently have a 5h with a parallel FCM 5.5 as opposed to KBS tour stiff in my irons. I think the parallel 6.0 would be a good avenue if you play 6.5 in your irons.

I have an Adams 23° head that I cut to be between 3/4 iron length. Added a Project X Pxi shaft and this thing is money. Put a little lead tape on the back in the center and I get a nice high yet penetrating flight. It’s my “go to” club for any shot from 190-210. It’s pretty good on punches too, can keep it fairly low if needed.

Found a PX 6.0 Flighted .370 uncut which should be perfect to try out. I have a feeling this thing is going to be deadly... Will report back once she's built.

I have three Titleist 915H hybrids (21°, 24°, & 27°) with plain old Dynamic Gold steel shafts, and they are awesome. I made them 1/2" longer than the corresponding iron, and they are money.
