It was a family thing they live in Aspen now and he says they are all happy as ever.

Lenard is afflicted with A-G-E disease. Add in that he is not a power hitter, and the current tour favors such players, further compounds his problems.

On top of all that the dude turned pro in 1994. Name someone who was playing in 1994 besides Furyk that's still out there. They are either done or on the Champions.

Personally, I think as you ascend the list of things things that separates good from great, great from historic etc, there's a point at which the ability to be rewarded with great success and still care enough to keep grinding comes into play. The game got longer sure, but I don't think that explains it all.

Early years

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Leonard attended Lake Highlands High School and graduated in 1990. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and was the individual NCAA champion in 1994. He won the 1992 U.S. Amateur and was a two-time All-American in 1993 and 1994. He won the Haskins Award in 1994 as the most outstanding collegiate golfer.

Leonard's wins on the PGA Tour included one of golf's four majors, the 1997 Open Championship, as well as the 1998 Players Championship. He ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for 24 weeks in 1998 and 1999.

Was never a huge Justin Leonard fan. However I admire what he's done for golf but at the same time I can see where the fans didn't get behind him. Especially later on in his career when he was only really competing in Fall series events.
