Hello all. Ive been trying to step up my game a little...been practicing my irons a lot at the range. I noticed that i hit my 8-7-6-5 iron's pretty much the same distance, with very little variance.

mrobbie

the above is precisely my problem - swinging with my arms. Occasionally I add a bit of shoulder to it, and once in a blue moon I seem to get everything right and have a perfect shot. No idea what I need to to to engrain the "everything" swing into my brain!

I am not sure about the distance of all your irons but for the hip part try shifting your hip to the target first before your down swing and see what happen.

x-forged

yeah that makes sense, just dont block the shot with your hips, make sure you clear the hips out of the way. but under_par is right, the hands should be working in unison with the hips. make sure to get through the shot to where your belly button is facing the target.

Anyone have issues where you have two different irons going the same distance? Any common causes? How did you fix it? I really don't want to mess with the bounce by bending a club stronger. My 9 iron is only about 2-4 yards longer than my 9 iron.

lefthack

I would agree to first have the lofts checked. Are you talking actual distance or Trackman distance? Are you taking the same divot?

buckeye2782

Have you had the lofts checked lately to see that they are indeed the intended lofts? If an older set, could have bent over time or were never truly the marked lofts depending on the QC (meaning more off the shelf than custom order, but even those can be off).

buckeye2782

First have your confirmed lofts are right? If the loft is off then the bounce is too. Second are these indoor or outdoor numbers? Indoors and mats can cause funky spin numbers that can make distances incorrect.

Lie angle and maybe they are only 2-3 degrees apart. Measuring with an app is tricky.

Why do my irons travel the same distance?

What factors affect distance on golf course?

Why does the golf ball wear out?

How to maintain lag in golf?

Instead, you should maintain lag in the downswing (keep hands ahead of the clubhead) and hit down on the ball with your irons. This will ensure you’re using the loft of each iron properly and that it travels the appropriate distance.

Why does my driver spin so much?

Well, remember that excessive spin with the driver is caused by having a negative (downward) attack angle. This means you need to try and shallow out your downswing path as much as possible. You should be attacking the ball from a level or even slightly upward angle (hitting up on the golf ball).

What happens when your swing is less efficient?
