Your top hand needs a strong hold and thus wider grip, bottom hand is the release/feedback hand and doesn't need a lot of grip to do this job. I am imagining non-tapered grip to be very uncomfortable.

Bumping an old topic after searching, would like to hear some more of your opinion Tom as I've been bringing this topic among friends lately, a lot of guys on tour now are building their grips with extra tape to essentially make them parallel. Thoughts?

Thank you for keeping it simply and at the same time coming from the most knowledgeable club man on this forum. I like the midsize feel and according to charts am a tweener between standard and midsize but the old axiom "bigger grip inhibits release thus fade and vs versa always lurked in the back of my mind.

a couple hundred years ago someone made tapered grips claiming you could hang onto the grip better in wet conditions, after that everybody made tapered grips and it just became the tradition.
