Fun to drive, easy to live with

This car is the only car in a house with 2 adults, a large dog, and a baby and we are hardly ever lacking for space. The best thing about this car is the versatility of changing from a 4-passenger car to a small utility hauler. Cupholders are terrible.

great daily driver

Bought a pristine K2 with heated seats for $4k-ish. Great daily driver. Good on gas, just enough pep, simple to work on yourself. Airbags, so relatively safe. No better $4k beater out there. 5 way heated seats a bonus in winter. Nice cold A/C.

Cheaper than what we expected

Cons: Rear CD-changer won't release at 20k, automatic trans that won't shift up on a warm day at 30k, Door trim falling off at 35k, rattle in dash at 50k, oil leak at 55k with fumes into pass compartment.

Driving fun combined with cargo space!

I've had VW's for many years ('80 Rabbit, '88 Golf, and this '98 Golf). In general, they're great cars and I love to drive them. Great gas mileage, great cargo space, and a TON of fun to drive. I highly recommend getting the standard transmission. I wish I would have gotten the CD changer for the trunk.

Fun and reliable so far

I bought this car several months ago with about 68,000 miles, and I've put a couple thousand more miles on it. So far my only maintenance has been scheduled items like replacing the timing belt and new tires.

Awesome used car

I bought the 1998 VW Golf in January ($2900 from a dealership) as an everyday city driver (live in NYC). It had 102,000 miles on it when I picked it up. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for VW's and always liked the late 90's model Golf hatchbacks (looks less like a Japanese car like the newer ones...

Good performance and reliability

Owned a '98 GTI for a couple of years. It is the most reliable car I ran into + good gas mileage. Love performance and handling. Nothing ever broke, so I never had to fix anything. Totally recommend to anyone. Exciting car for small budget.

One of the best cars I've had

I have a Tornado Red GTI VR6, I absolutely love this car. Not only is it a fairly quick car, but the door panels, hood, grill, headlights, and pretty much everything else is interchangeable with other VW models, but I'm sure you knew that already. I highly recommend this car to everyone. It's extremely fun to drive!

My 98 GL 268K miles running strong!!

This 98 VW Golf Gl is probably one of the best Cars i have ever owned. Its very reliable, great on gas, easy to monoover through traffic and great for those tight parking spaces.
