A two-car crash at the intersection of Golf and Rand Sunday killed three family members riding in one vehicle. DES PLAINES, IL — Three people died and two others were taken to the hospital after a two-car crash in Des Plaines Sunday evening, police said.

The driver of the wrecked car was extricated by Des Plaines Fire Department rescuers and rushed to Lutheran General Hospital with life threatening injuries, according to police. All three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 6:05 p.m., a Volkswagen headed northwest on Rand Road was turning turn left onto Golf Road when it was struck in its passenger side by an oncoming Lexus. The force of the impact sent the VW and its four occupants spinning off of the road.
