I just finished all 5 seasons of Stargate: Atlantis (thanks to streaming Netflix) - I can't believe they cancelled the series. I haven't watched much TV lately but thought it was a great series.

They wanted to make a show with a different tone. It's understandable for people that have worked on essentially the same format for 13 years.

The story seems to be that the producers were only willing to make one show at a time after what they went through with SG-1 and Atlantis, and while Brad was willing to wait a year for SGU and let Atlantis have it's sixth and final season, Syfy weren't.
