I also have this noise in comfort mode on my 2014 R - see item 2 below. When I switch to race mode the noise disappears. it must be related to the damper control.

I took it to VW today. They believe it is the drop links. Will let you all know if it is the fix

Update: I went into my local VW garage to fix what they thought was the drop link. Upon reviewing it they realised it was not the issue. Two technicians looked at the car and have deduced it is either the rear offside DOG BONE or the rear offside top mount.

After replacing the Dog Bone and Top Mount.... the noise is still there... their new idea... "it could be the shock absorber itself"... now waiting for that to be replaced now. I will know by tomorrow if that works.

Update again: well.... it isn't the shock either. They want to keep it for tomorrow and investigate it further! I am scared now!
