I want to build a shorter driver... I'm thinking ~44". I've experimented previously but always butt-trimmed a stock ~46" driver. I didn't get along with them.
DaveGoodrich
You can add weight to the head using yarn, polyfill, etc. (search). Butt cut shaft to desired length and add grip of your choice, experiment with lead tape to find how much weight to add, then use yarn etc. or have it hot melted.

It sounds like you may have to pull the shaft so why not just use a tip weight?
Nessism
If you add a bunch of weight to the head to get the swingweight balance back to a normal range then the head will be heavier than the customary range and the shaft will play softer than stock because of the extra weight. Some shaft tipping is in order unless you are okay with the shaft playing softer.

I have a bunch of the 8 and 10 gram graphite "tip" weights .. I won't use them, as they don't let the shaft sit all the way in the bottom. They are more like "hanging out of the bottom of the tip weights". It effectively mucks up the length by about 1/4". If anyone wants them, shoot me a PM and I'll put them in the mail for you.
