We never used a certain type of shampoo...all seemed to work great. I think the way shampoo lathers up has something to do with it....picks up all the dirt in the lather...then just wipe off with a damp cloth....as posted above a stiff bristle brush is a must to get the dirt out of crevices. It also gets a white sole gleaming clean.

My first rule of thumb is not to wear my white golf shoes when it is wet and muddy on the course. Then when they need cleaned I use Windex and a big scrub brush. Seems to work well for me.
