I had a first recently and don't know how to play the shot. I ended up in deep Bermuda rough and the ball sat all the way down. I don't have exacts but I'd say the grass was 3+ inches above the ball. I attempted to hack it out with a 6i and it took two shots to advance the ball a whooping 35 yards to finally get into the fairway.

Good luck. Get to short grass as quickly as you can. Unless you know for certain you can advance the ball forward to the green and be able to clear the thick stuff, treat it like a hazard and get back to the fairway. Only reason it works for Bryson is that he is close to the hole, he can take a lofted club like a 9 iron and get to the hole.

Loft is your friend. You will also get those screaming flier lies in bermuda. Probably the grass where it's most important to be able to read the lie and how the ball will react.

People always talk about bermuda grass and it being difficult with the greens, but with today's bermuda strands many of the greens are as unaffected by the grain like bent grass greens.

Thanks for all of the additional info. @llewol007 I was trying to get to the short grass ASAP. I hit a skyball with my driver a real impressive 96 yards into the rough that fronts the tee box. Not knowing what I was doing it took me two more shots to get it about 35 yards into the fairway.
