Locating the Serial Number
People often ask us how to determine the year of their Club Cart. First you should look for the serial number. In most newer carts (1990’s and up) you will find the serial number for your golf cart on a bar coded sticker either above the accelerator and brake pedal area or below the passenger side cup holders.
Serial Number Locations Based on Model and Year
Vintage Club Cars – Usually under the drivers side seat on a frame rail (1970’s and 1980’s) Club Car DS Models – 1.) Above the Pedal Assembly Below Instrument Panel ( Late 1990’s and Up ) or 2.) Below the Glove Box Area On Passenger side ( 1981 and Up )
Model Differences
1982-Present DS models have a square front nose with a small, black, plastic bumper on the lower part of the front end.
Model Separations
1982-2000.5 models have two separate seat backs, while 2000.5-Present models have single seat backs.

Where Do I Find This Information?
The serial number will give you all the Club Car golf cart model identification information you need. Each model displays the serial number in a different place—because you don’t know yet which model you have, try checking inside or under the passenger side glove compartment.
What is the Difference Between Precedent and DS Models?
The Club Car Precedent series first began being manufactured in 2004 while the DS first began being manufactured in 1982. You can still find OEM parts for DS models, but because a DS cart is older, it may lack some of the advanced features you’d find on a Precedent cart.
Finding the model year on your E-Z-GO golf cart
The interesting thing about E-Z-GO is that just finding the manufacturer code will tell you the model of the golf cart, and the year of manufacture is really easy to decode from the manufacture code.
Decode the manufacturer code!
If your E-Z-GO golf cart was made after 1979, then the year code is the last two digits of the code, but 76-78 used the first two digits of the code. Take these two digits, add 19- or 20- to the beginning, and you have your model year. If the last two digits are 02, then you have a 2002 golf cart, and so on.
Finding the model year on your Club Car golf cart
Club Car is nearly the same as E-Z-GO, but with a slightly different method of decoding the manufacturer code. The sticker placement is roughly similar, too. Also like the E-Z-GO, Club Car completely changed things in the disco era.
Finding the model year on your Yamaha golf cart
Of course, Yamaha wasn’t really a part of that sort of standardization of manufacturer codes. They follow closer to the Japanese model of manufacture code, which uses letter for almost everything. This can get a little annoying, but it’s really just because it’s harder to remember.
