Just found out that what I thought was a meniscus tear suffered on July 8th is actually a meniscus tear.

I've torn my left Acl twice in the last 4 years. Started playing after 5 months on the 1st one and with the rehab I was doing it was like I never missed a beat. Tore it again in March of 15 and didn't want to give up a whole season, so I played the whole summer without getting it fixed.

I don't like all these stories of tearing them multiple times or each knee!! LOL

I tore mine in 1992, and complication was the tip of the tibia broke off. I was playing 5 or 6 months later. Hard part actually was crouching to read putts and getting my ball out of the hole. Left knee and I'm right handed.

It's been 4 months sine I had ACL surgery with a patellar tendon graft. I was just cleared to return to golf. I can't seem to make myself release the club after impact now.

I can empathize. I had a torn meniscus 3 1/2 years ago in my right knee (obviously not as bad as an ACL). I'm LH, so it's my front leg. I had the knee scoped and the torn piece of the meniscus was removed. I was able to resume hitting balls after about 4 weeks and playing another month after that.

I've played 1 round.. I'm 3 months post op myself (I went donor route) and also missing a large portion of my meniscus (left knee/right handed)... I was a 4.9 when I had the injury and shot 78 last week.. lost no distance, but my irons are rusty.

I had a acl recon on my front leg after a rugby injury - took me a year to get back playing (rugby) but had to give up once our first child ws on his way and I wanted to make sure I'm going to be able to run around with him when I'm 40 (currently 34).....so I then took up golf 3 years ago One thing I did was toe out my front leg alittle to reduce the twisting force on the knee on follow through.

I'm 6 weeks out come monday; I'm 39, a 4 cap and went with the hamstring tendons; left leg, righty. I was hitting a 6 iron into a net in the backyard last week and again today. I'm just swinging about 75%. Big difference from one week to the next, which is encouraging. My goals is to be back on the course within 4 months.

Hey OP and others, How is everyone progressing? I'm 4 months off and just starting extensions curls and some jump training. I did the patellar tendon graft which takes longer. Any tips? Stories of your experiences so far now that time has passed?

Many years ago I tore my ACL playing softball. When I got cleared to play again I was pretty nervous about it. I did all the rehab and it felt fine but it took some time before I trusted it enough to really play again. Not so much swinging the bat but running the bases and making that pivot on the corner of the bags.
How long does it take to recover from ACL surgery?
For athletes who wish to return to pivoting sports, the typical advice is an ACL reconstruction after 4–8 weeks when full range of motion is established and there is no joint swelling. 1–3 The purpose of an ACL reconstruction is to give the athlete a mechanically stable knee and to reduce the risk of subsequent injury to the menisci and cartilage by reducing anteroposterior joint motion. 4 A number of short term studies have shown good to excellent knee function after reconstruction, whether hamstrings 5–7 or patellar tendon 8 grafts are used. 7 The same studies also confirm that most patients (65–88%) are able to return to sport within the first year. Thus it is fair to state that surgery is effective in allowing injured athletes to resume their sports career.
How long does it take for an athlete to recover from arthroscopic surgery?
When an athlete is injured today, it is expected that arthroscopic surgery will take place a few weeks after injury, that rehabilitation is started immediately, and that the patient is able to return to sport in four to nine months. The “best” surgeons and physiotherapists are rumoured to return players even sooner.
How many ACL injuries are bone bruises?
Bone bruises are evident in 80–90% of ACL injured knees, although their significance for future knee function is not clear. 23 Meniscal injuries are found in 75%, 23 and loss of meniscal tissue is an important risk factor for future degenerative joint disease of the knee.
Is ACL injury a risk factor for OA?
An ACL injury entails a significant risk of OA, 22 and it may be that the initial injury itself is an important determinant of the development of OA, no matter what treatment is used or how the knee is loaded during subsequent years. Another important factor is that isolated ACL injury is a rare occurrence.
How long does it take to return to golf?
Golf does place a different type of force though the knee, and a general time frame for a full return to golf would be around 7 months, but that would depend on your surgeon. You may be able to head the the range, however, at around 4 months.
How long does it take to recover from knee replacement?
The majority of people can return to full activity, without restrictions, in 4-6 weeks.
What is the most common knee injury for a golfer?
A very common knee injury for an older (50+) golfer is a total knee replacement. This surgery is performed whenever the knee joint undergoes degenerative changes and is essentially bone on bone. The soft menisci have been worn done by use and/or arthritis.
What is the goal of rehab?
The goal of rehab is to increase range of motion to near normal levels and regain functional strength throughout both legs. You must have good strength, mobility, and balance before returning to golf! Your knee needs to be able to handle rotational forces, as well as a weight shift effectively.
Can knee surgery prolong the recovery time?
Well, the answer to that question lies solely with the specific type of injury and the severity. More severe knee injuries can even lead to surgery, which will further prolong the rehabilitation time. Let me get one thing in the clear, however. When it comes to knee rehab, or rehab or any nature, very few things are concrete.
Can you be out of golf with an ACL tear?
While not one of the most common golf injuries, an ACL tear can put you out of golf for a very long time. ACL injuries commonly occur with other athletic events, particularly those with contact or with quick changes of direction. However, see Tiger Woods for a top tier golfer that was greatly affected by an ACL tear.
Does golf swing affect knees?
Surprisingly, there are significant forces that work on your knee during the golf swing. A recent medical research article even compared the forces to those of jogging.
