Average Swing Speed (Swing Speed Charts)

We all want to be as good as the pros, but you won’t be, in terms of swing speed, until you match up with the averages they post. While advanced metrics weren’t around when Bobby Jones or Walter Hagen played golf, Tiger Woods has relied on metrics and increasing speeds for his club head and swing for many years.

How to Increase Swing Speed

Swinging out of your shoes is one way to increase your swing speed, but it likely won’t give you the results you’re looking for. You have to be smart about increasing your swing speed to increase your distance. Lifting weights or using weights to speed up your swing are tried and true methods.

How to Measure your Swing Speed

There are multiple ways for you to find out what your swing speed is. You can invest in a personal launch monitor that helps you track swing speed as one of its metrics. You can set it up on the driving range with you or in your backyard as you’re hitting into a net to get a better idea of just how fast you’re swinging.

Wrapping It Up and Heading to the Clubhouse

Swing your arms faster and use a vertical golf swing. Do not expend energy pulling the golf club vertical then yanking it down to meet the golf ball.

Does surge rotate arms?

Surge never said not to rotate at all nor that rotation plays no part in the speed of the arms. Arm rotation alone accounts for the major portion of speed and the freedom of that movement is key to maximizing it. Log in or register to post comments.

The hips, the shoulders, the hands, the club, all those are fully released about 45° in front. That’s the sequence of things happening. Our hips start the ball rolling. As they slow down, the shoulders build on the hip speed, as they slow down the arms build on the shoulder speed.

Why is the body important in golf?

Which body part is responsible for club head speed?

A kinematic sequence chart shows left arm speed to be the body part most directly responsible for club head speed. A left-handed cross court back hand and left handed frisbee throw are similar to a right handed golf swing and in those motions, the left arm fires off the chest. Only firing the body would get you nowhere.

Why does accelerating your hands not work?

The reasin why accelerating your hands does not work by accelertaing your arm is, that there are only little muscles in the shoulder, rotator calf as the most importanta. I know this sounds like a ridiculous question, but I have a theory. I know poet gets stored everywhere from the feet to the hands, but how does that correlate to more clubhead speed and thusly, more distance.

I would focus more on ball speed - club head speed is less valuable than a high "smash factor", resulting from correct, efficient impact. For example, take a slow swinger of the club that has efficient impact and compare them to someone who swings much faster but has poorer impact.
