why does my golf swing go bad when i get tired

If your scores are markedly higher over the last stretch, fatigue is likely the culprit. A few things tend to happen to the worn-down golfer. 1) The legs become less active in the swing, leading to shorter shots that stray right or left. 2) Our focus is dulled; this may be reflected in missed short putts or uncharacteristic mishits.

Fatigue in golf is more subtle. You shouldn't end up on the ground with cramps (hopefully), but your legs may reach the point where they are unable to fire through the swing like they were doing early in the round. Also, physical fatigue can lead to mental fatigue, which can cause you to make poor decisions.

i am a very active person (ride my bicycle 80 miles/week, lift weights 3 x/week, range 1-2 x/week, 18 holes 1-2x/week, work 50 hours/week).

bluedot

The most likely culprit is getting into a faulty address position that causes poor angles and the need for compensations, along with the loss of balance. When you sense this slippage occurring, work very hard on getting in an athletic, balanced address position, and then maintaining balance and angles in a smooth takeaway.

Albatross85

I experience this as well. Biggest prob when it strikes is it causes massive arm overrun. Some days club feels like a toothpick, others like a sledgehammer

MrJones

If I'm still experiencing DOMS by the time the weekend rolls around it usually has a small affect on my game. I've also had time where I just was flat out tired by the time we'd walked on a really hot, humid day. When it happens I struggle to maintain my posture during the swing, something I'd normally never even have to think about.

scottaz

I'm the exact opposite. I'm a gym rat and run 6 days a week and play my best when I'm fatigued. Keeps me smooth. The few times I may play without hitting the gym first I tend to be a little edgy.

flatnstuck

Perhaps try to fuel and hydrate yourself during the round to minimize the drop off? Seems like the ladies are eating snacks pretty nonstop on the lpgatour anyways.

ijaz429

You struggle because you want to play your best while your current physical condition is not up to par.

Ferguson

It's like asking how do I avoid being hit by a car while walking blindfolded into heavy traffic, after being hit by a car.

MrJones

The heat/humidity sometimes gets me like this for the last few holes. No matter how much I try to hydrate, I'm just sweating too much. At this point I feel like I can still swing but my legs are ready to go home.

MrJones

If I had to play under those conditions, I'd rather go home. Its not good for your game, your physical health or mental health to have to force yourself to play a hobby.

Have you considered your club specs (swingweight especially) in the context of this thread? Longer irons at D7 with x-flex shafts might not be suitable to your B game, fitness level or just playing in arduous environmental conditions?

stryper

Think I might be tired too, if I carried all the baggage in the OPs sig. If I counted correctly, it's only 14 clubs, but still a burden associated with all those specs. A hint into the real problem? :dntknw:

How To Regain Confidence And Your Golf Swing

I remember the first time I had lost my golfing mojo. I went from consistently swinging a score of 80-85, to being well into the triple digits. At the time, I couldn’t work out what was wrong with my golf swing. It felt like I went back in time, back to when I was a beginner.

How I fixed My Golf Swing

I decided to do 3 simple things each day for a total of 30 days. Once my own experiment was complete, I completely regained my swing and was chipping consistently. I’m happy to report that I was playing my best golf ever!

1. Practice One Drill 100 times

I made a promise to myself that I would practice hitting irons over and over again. In fact I chose to do the drill 100 times per day. I knew there wasn’t much point performing my normal golf routine. Instead I focused on the problem, and practiced consistently.

2. Meditate and Visualize Your Best Shots

Aside from repeatedly practicing I also incorporated 20 straight days of visualizing and meditation. The results are undeniable. This is when I saw a huge improvement in my golf swing! In fact after only 1 day of doing this I noticed a small but noticeable boost in my swinging technique.

The Visualization Experiment

Make no mistake about it. I have tried dozens of different ways to gain confidence on the golf course. This is why I feel extremely confident sharing my ideas with you. Although everyone’s situation is different, I likely know what’s going wrong in your game.

Summary

To conclude this article, I’m very confident that what I have shared with you will get you out of your golfing slump. In fact my technique works every single time for me!

I have realized there are certain exercises I can't or shouldn't do the day before I golf. Shoulders and squats. If I do any of those exercises the day before it is pure misery at the golf course. If I do lite arm workout the day before and just arms I play pretty well.

Sai-Jin

Shoulders and squats... that'll affect the ability to turn completely in back swing and to comfortably have a powerful and balanced down swing.

I feel more tired when I wake up and before starting on the round. Once I'm on the course it's usually not a problem. Most I've played is 7-8 days in a row, but I felt most tired after the first two days. If I get enough sleep, it's ok.
