In a recent interview (sometime this past summer) Tiger said he originally used the tape to cover a cut on his finger, then kept using it for good luck. It seems to have worked so far!

I sometimes use some tape around my right index finger - to prevent chaffing from the grip........ hasn't brought me any luck though!

Ahh, you know us athletic golfers like to look like we have to wrap injuries to look tough like hockey and football players. I'm thinking of putting the ol black shoe polish under the eyes. I am surprised that no one on tour yet has thought of advertising on the eye black.

Its for when the finger gets sore from practice, the callous rips or gets sore. The tape just decreases the sensitivity

He uses it for luck. But sometimes I use tape on my left middle finger because when I practice and hit alot of balls my finger will split and it is the worse pain like a huge paper cut. Tape just holds it together so it doesn't hurt.
